Q&A

อาหารของแมวมีอะไรบ้าง
The right amount of food for cats

The right amount of food can be adjusted according to the cats’ sizes, weight, ages and their daily activities. Additional food details and proportion can be found at the back of the food packages.

Nekko cat food products do not contain any additional salt. As Nekko cat wet food products are made from real tuna, sodium contained in the foods is the natural sodium found in the oceanic fishes.

The products are sealed in a retort pouch, a packaging that is tightly sealed, clean, safe and is able to withstand thermal and high pressure processing during the sterilization. The retort pouch packaging allows them to be kept unrefrigerated for two years.

The products are manufactured with a high temperature sterilization which kills microorganisms that cause food spoilage and the ones that cause diseases. The products can also be kept for two years without using any preservative as they are stored in a retort pouch packaging which is tightly sealed, clean, safe and is able to withstand thermal and high pressure processing during the sterilization.

Yes, they can but it is not recommended. Cats should be fed with foods that are right for their ages as each age group requires different nutritional needs. Since cats start their physical development in the early stage of age (kittens) and will be full-grown at the age of one, kittens foods have to be made with a higher amount of protein as well as higher amount of other essential nutrients for kittens such as Calcium, DHA, Omega 3 and Omega 6 etc. Therefore, feeding kittens with adult cat foods may affect their growth and development.

Yes, they can but it is not recommended. Cats should be fed with foods that are right for their ages. Since kitten foods contain a higher amount of protein than in the adult cat foods, adult cats could be gaining excessive protein, energy and nutrients which would cause accumulation of fats, increased weight, obesity and fatigue due to the excretion of those excessive dietary intakes.

It is not recommended as of now, Nekko cat foods has not yet developed medical cat foods. We advise you to consult with licensed veterinarians. However, cats that are in healthy condition can safely eat Nekko cat foods which contain an amount of sodium in the suggested limit without any health concern.

Wet foods should be kept in a refrigerator not exceeding two days.
Dry foods should be kept in their own packages, tightly sealed or stored in a dry, clean and sealed container and should be consumed within 3 months after.

When can we start feeding dogs wet foods and how often should we feed them?

Normally, dogs should be fed two times a day (breakfeat and dinner). Wet foods with complete and balanced nutritions can be served as main food in proportion that is according to their weight. (The chart is given at the back of the food label.)

In case the dry food is served as the main one and you want to add more wet food to stimulate the dogs’ appetite, the portion of the dry food should be reduced and the added portion of the wet food should not exceed 10-15% per meal to prevent obesity in dogs.

Three factors that should be taken into consideration are:

  1. Ages
  2. Daily routine (Exercises or running during the day)
  3. Health condition and overall weight.

Transitioning from puppy food to adult dogs food should be done gradually since the sudden changes in diet might causes gastrointestinal problems to the dogs’ sensitive stomachs.

The recommended portion and the food transition are as followed:

Day 1– The ratio of puppy food per adult dogs food are 75%: 25%.

Day 2– The ratio of puppy food per adult dogs food are 50%: 50%.

Day 3– The ratio of puppy food per adult dogs food are 25%: 75%.

Day 4– A transition to 100% adult dog food.

The first step is choosing the complete nutrition that is proportionated to their ages, sizes and breeds. Their physical changes and behaviors could indicate their health problems and should be well observed.

Common health problems for dogs could affect their eyes, skin, fur, mobility in walking or running, cavity, excretion or vomitting.
Having your dogs vaccinated and dewormed by the licensed veterinarian and excersice them regularly could enhance their immunity and their physical and mental health.

1) Eyes Problem: Eyes discharge (tears and eyes boogers) may be the symptoms of exophthalmos, entropian or blepharitis.

2) Skin Problem: Skin irritation and itching, fur loss or unpleasant smell are the symptoms of skin problems. Their foods and diets should be changed or adjusted accordingly along with bathing and maintaining their hygiene such as cleaning their beds, blankets, baskets etc.

3) Ears Problem: Compulsive and excessive ears scratching is usually caused by ear mites. Their ears should be cleaned regularly.
Please consider consulting veterinarians for ear drops prescription.

4) Plaque and Tartar: Visible symptoms are accumulation of pus around the teeth. Feeding dogs with pet foods without any snacks or dental chews can cause plaque and tartar.

5) Obesity: Gaining weight, becoming less active, having less mobility while walking and running and changes in their natural movements could be the sign of obesity.
This might be caused by the diet that is not appropraite to their ages, sizes or breeds.

Possible Solutions are portion control, proportioned nutritions and regular excercises.

In case these solutions and treatments do not help, please consult the veterinarians as soon as possible.

Yes, they can but they should not be fed with cat food for a long period of time. Since dogs and cats need different diet and nutrition, the amount of each nutrient in their food varies. For instance, cats need more Taurine than dogs because they have a limited ability to manufacture Taurine so they need to get food with higher level of Taurine. Therefore, most cat foods have higher Taurine content. If dogs eat cats food for a long period of time, they might get excessive amount of Taurine which could affect their health in the long run.
